See TranscriptWhen did you discover your passion for music?
My mom is an amazing singer and pianist. She taught me a few chords, and eventually, we were playing at church.
What’s your favorite part about performing in front of an audience?
The best part of playing in front of an audience is the adrenaline rush of taking risks, musically.
Any other hobbies?
Acting and musical theater. In fact, I met my wife at a community theater.
Why did you switch to ELOCTATE?
My hematologist told me about ELOCTATE, she said it was the first Factor VIII with an extended half-life, so I wouldn’t have to infuse as often.
What would you like to tell someone reading this Q+A?
I want to encourage everyone here with hemophilia or caring for a child with hemophilia: if you are living under a helmet of fear, take it off. We can live confident, productive, and purposeful lives.
Note: Patient stories reflect the real-life experiences of persons diagnosed with hemophilia A who have been prescribed ELOCTATE. However, individual experiences may vary. Patient stories are not necessarily representative of what another person using ELOCTATE may experience. Talk to your healthcare provider about what's right for you. ELOCTATE Peers™ have been compensated for sharing their stories.
The recommended starting regimen is 50 IU/kg every 4 days as directed by your doctor. In children under 6 years of age, the recommended starting regimen is 50 IU/kg administered twice weekly. The regimen can be adjusted based on your body's individual response

Chayse:
The best part of playing in front of an audience is kind of like an adrenaline rush of taking risks musically. With hemophilia, I don't intentionally take physical risks, so music is that outlet for me. Growing up with hemophilia A, I loved wrestling with my siblings, I loved to skateboard, and I even liked to play football with all my friends. But even though I took precautions before I did those things, I would frequently come back with scrapes and bruises and bleeds. In music I found a soulful, safe place where I could express myself creatively without the fear of getting hurt. I actually met my wife because of music because we got cast as husband and wife in a theater production.
Joint bleed protection is incredibly important to me. I need my joints to be able to do what I love and I count on my joints to allow me to make music. I want my listeners to feel inspired. You know, I want them to be lifted up. And that's what I love about being a part of the ELOCTATE Peers Program. I love impacting people in an inspirational way. I first learned about ELOCTATE in 2016 at a normal checkup. My doctor mentioned a treatment for hemophilia A called ELOCTATE and I asked her why she thought that would be a good fit. She told me that ELOCTATE was the first factor VIII with an extended half-life and it was approved to reduce bleeds and joint bleeds. Something that could potentially offer me that bleed and joint bleed protection and be taken less often than the standard half-life treatment that I was using — that appealed to me.
My doctor told me about some of the side effects of a ELOCTATE such as allergic reactions, headaches, rashes. joint pain, and the possibility of developing an inhibitor — but considering how often I use my joints to play and make music, ELOCTATE just made sense. I've been able to treat minor bleeds and resolve the target joint in my ankle using ELOCTATE. This is my experience. Yours could be different. So, make sure you talk to your doctor to see if ELOCTATE is right for you.
I would tell that kid who can't play football, who can't skateboard because of hemophilia A that being unique is powerful. We can live confident, productive, and purposeful lives. And I know it's hard not to be able to do the things that other kids do, but you may find talents that you never knew you had and new things you love to do. That’s what happened to me.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Do not use ELOCTATE if you have had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Tell your healthcare provider if you have or have had any medical problems, take any medicines, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, supplements, or herbal medicines, have any allergies, are breastfeeding, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or have been told you have inhibitors (antibodies) to Factor VIII.
Allergic reactions may occur with ELOCTATE. Call your healthcare provider or get emergency treatment right away if you have any of the following symptoms: difficulty breathing, chest tightness, swelling of the face, rash, or hives.
Your body can also make antibodies called "inhibitors" against ELOCTATE, which may stop ELOCTATE from working properly.
Additional common side effects of ELOCTATE are headache, rash, joint pain, muscle pain and general discomfort.
If you have risk factors for developing abnormal blood clots in your body, such as an indwelling venous catheter, treatment with Factor VIII may increase this risk.
These are not all the possible side effects of ELOCTATE. Talk to your healthcare provider right away about any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away, or if bleeding is not controlled after using ELOCTATE.
